Peers

Peer pressure. It sounds so easy to “just say no” but think back to your youth. It can be pretty tough to say no to a friend or when you’re trying to fit in. Your child’s friends also have the advantage of hanging around with your child away from your watchful eyes. It can be easy to get into trouble when no one’s watching!

Friends are a strong influence, but parents can be an even stronger influence by being aware and involved. Know where your child is and who they hang around with. Set down clear rules about alcohol and enforce the consequences for breaking those rules. Perhaps you can even have the friends to your home more often. Your positive behaviours might even end up having a positive influence on your child’s friends too.
